5. Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting- Damon is always slightly off in his performance, and overdoes his accent throughout.


4. Dustin Hoffman in Wag the Dog- Hoffman is entertaining and the best thing in Wag the Dog but it is just not that much overall.
3. Jack Nicholson in As Good As it Gets- Nicholson has some very good moments in this film but the script makes a change in his character that Nicholson is unable to compensate for.

2. Peter Fonda in Ulee's Gold- Fonda creates an interesting portrait of an interesting man. Staying very quiet but giving a lot of power to his performance.
1. Robert Duvall in The Apostle- Duvall creates an original and fascinating character in the Apostle, which creates many powerful scenes in the film.
